Kiwanis began in 1915 with one member – Joe Prance – and then one club, the Kiwanis Club of Detroit No. 1, Michigan. Today Kiwanis has grown to more than 300,000 members in more than 8,000 clubs throughout 71 nations worldwide. The North Valleys Kiwanians are part of the Cal-Nev-Ha District, Division #23. Objectives of Kiwanis international
The Kiwanis Club of North Valleys is a service organization (the only one in North Valleys, we believe) focusing specifically on youth and families in our neighborhood. The North Valleys Kiwanians are proud of their involvement in the North Valleys. Our members are active in service projects throughout the year. Return to Top
We fund many of our projects through fundraising. Our projects include:
Washoe High School Scholarship
Cub Scout Pack #111
Holiday food assistance
Heath and Safety Fair at North Valleys Regional Park
To fund these projects we do pancake breakfasts where we drink coffee, cook pancakes, eat pancakes, work hard and have fun.
Star Spangled Sparks (July 4)
Great Reno Balloon Race (September)
Reno Championship Air Races (September)
University of Phoenix General Faculty Meetings (Fall and Spring)
We also participate in such community events as the Model Dairy Fishing Derby held at Pyramid Lake in March. Return to Top
The Kiwanis Club of North Valleys meets for dinner each Tuesday, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Carrows Restaurant, 605 North Wells, Reno. Each meeting includes fellowship and a short business session followed by a guest speaker. Meetings conclude promptly at 7:00 pm.
Throughout the year, our club holds picnics, barbeques, mystery dinners and other social functions. We encourage the participation of each member’s family and friends at these events. Please come visit us and see what Kiwanis is all about. We look forward to seeing you. Return to Top
